Insurance for Different Types of Motorcycles

Whether you have a motorcycle or you are looking to make a purchase, there is a lot to consider when it comes to insurance. For example, certain types of motorcycles cost more to insure. There are 6 different types of motorcycles that we will be covering in this article: cruisers, custom, touring, standard, sport, and vintage.
#1: Cruisers
Cruisers are one of the types of motorcycles that most people envision when they hear the word. They usually have a low-rider seat, foot pegs out in front, and handlebars that are either up high or pressed back. They are also defined by the trademark low engine rumble. Often, these are the motorcycles we see in movies or shows like Sons of Anarchy. Cruisers can be costly, especially for nice models such as a Harley-Davidson. Due to this, premiums will be a bit higher. However, cruisers often draw an older, more responsible clientele. An estimated yearly premium would be $1000 for liability, property, collision, and comprehensive insurance and roadside assistance.
#2: Custom
The nature of something being custom generally means that prices will be higher. The higher the price, the higher the premiums. Customers can create their own designs and features with paint and parts. On average, a fair estimate would be above $1000.
#3: Standard
Standard motorcycles are one of the best types of motorcycles for novice riders. These bikes are a mash-up between a cruiser and a sport bike. They are usually cheaper and provide an easy, comfortable ride. Dependent on the price and your driving record, the annual cost will hover a bit below $1000.
#4: Touring
Touring motorcycles are among the types of motorcycles chosen for longer distance travelling. They provide lots of space for passengers and luggage. The focus for these models is placed on comfort more than luxury or sport. It’s not about going fast; it’s about being able to far comfortably. The cost of premiums can vary based on the cost of the model that you purchase. For simpler models, it might be around $700 while I more intricate model costing $20,000 might have insurance costs of $1000.
#5: Sport
Sport motorcycles are designed for precision handling and going fast. They are perfect for the people seeking high-performance. Often, this appeals to a younger crowd. This means that they are generally associated with riskier drivers who are more expensive to insure. An average annual premium for these motorcycles would be around $1300.
#6: Vintage
Vintage motorcycles are often the most expensive to insure. Motorcycle riders who like to collect older, classic models are willing to pay good money. Some of the more desirable bikes have been known to sell for six figures. Generally, these bikes do appeal to an older, safer demographic, but the exorbitant cost makes them costly to insure. Depending on the value of the motorcycle, premiums for a year can range from $1300-$1500 or higher.
